Documentary family sessions are such a beautiful way of documenting your family in their most natural way. There’s not posing, no cheesy smiles – just me capturing you just as you are as you go about your day. It’s also so great to just go with the flow especially when you have young kids! Because sometimes when you have a one year old, things don’t always go to plan!

This was exactly the case with Aislinn at, what was meant to be her first birthday cake smash session. Instead of making that big, sweet sticky mess (that makes for super CAHUUUTE photos) she decided NO.

“I do not like cake with pink icing and I especially do NOT like getting all over my little hands.”

Instead she liked sliced peach instead. And you know what? She didn’t mind one bit if that sticky, juicy peach dripped down her face and all over her arms! Because peach is delicious! Much more delicious than cake!

Dad, Michael, tried his hardest to get her to try it. Pushing an icing covered straw in her face which she eventually started eating. But still refused to touch it.

And that’s life with kids. It’s messy, but maybe not in the way you’d think 😉

This is the second time I’ve had the privilege of photographing the Wilson family and I just love them so much! I’ve included a bunch of shots from their session and I honestly wouldn’t be mad if I did more of these kinds of sessions. There’s something just so fun about capturing a family in their space. I loved capturing their ‘normal’ and getting to know them just that little bit better. It was also so nice to see some of the photos from our last session hanging on the walls and in frames. It’s such an honour to know that these images will go down in their family history <3
